Standard UK Door Sizes

When remodelling your home, you’ll need to take into account your doors. Whether you’re replacing an old one or have created a new room, a door is literally the gateway to the space you call home. Most existing doorways use a set of standard measurements which make replacing the doors easy. Simply measure the door frame and select the correct size.

On our website, we list the sizes of our doors with the following formula: height x width x thickness. Measurements are listed in millimetres and are usually accompanied by measurements in inches. By using millimetres, we can give a very accurate measurement but if you prefer to work in centimetres, simply divide the number by 10. For example: 1981mm is 198.1cm

What Are The Standard Door Sizes

Here is a quick guide to the range of door sizes that we offer here at Leaders doors.

1981 x 457/533 x 35mm – This door size is often used for cupboards or wardrobe doors.
1981 x 610/686 x 35mm – A good door size for small rooms or restricted spaces where a smaller door is needed.
1981 x 762 x 35mm – The most common internal door size in England & Wales; also known as a 2’6” door!
1981 x 838 x 35mm – The best size option for those who need mobility/wheelchair access; also known as a 2’9” door.

What Are The Standard Internal Door Sizes?

At Leaders Doors, all internal doors are the same height but they are available in different widths and some doors are also offered in different thicknesses. The thickness of the door will depend on the depth of the door aperture as that will vary depending on the thickness of the wall or architrave.

The standard height of an internal door is 1981mm (or 78 inches) with the available widths ranging from 610cm (24”) to 838cm (33”). Doors that are 838cm wide are great for homes with additional mobility needs as they will fit most sizes of wheelchairs with ease.

What Are The Standard External Door Sizes?

External doors usually feature different measurements than internal ones. Their standard sizes go much wider than internal doors do, ranging from 610mm all the way up to 926mm – perfect for grand entryways and easily accessible homes alike. The standard thickness for external doors tends to be 44mm as the aperture of the door ways is deeper and it also offers better security for your home.

What Are The Standard Garage Door Sizes?

Garage doors are offered in much larger measurements because of their double size. The width is 2134mm on these larger doors with a standard height that measures between 1981mm to 2134mm. Of course, the doors need to be big enough to fit your cars and bulky items which justifies the extra height and width. As with the other external doors, our garage doors are all 44mm thick to keep your garage secure.

What Are The Standard Bifold Door Sizes?

Bifold doors are doors which fold to open rather than swing back and forth. They’re good for smaller rooms where space is at a premium as they take up less floor space than the more traditional models. They’re the same height as traditional internal doors with a standard height of 1981mm and are available in two standard widths of 686mm or 762mm.
